Kavala has a lively café and bar culture concentrated around the waterfront and Panagia district. The traditional kafeneion — Greek café serving strong coffee, ouzo, and meze — is well represented in the old town. In summer, beach bars operate along the beaches west of the city. The Panagia area has the best atmosphere in the evenings, with tables spilling out into the lanes around the castle.
