The old market area around Agiou Nikolaou near the waterfront has the best selection of local food products — Greek honey, olive oil, olives, and dried herbs. The Panagia district has a few craft and souvenir shops. The Pangaion hills behind the city are tobacco-growing country; the city's history is closely bound up with tobacco processing and trade, and local tobacco products are among the more distinctive souvenirs.
