June to September is the summer season, with reliable hot weather, beaches in full operation, and the Philippi-Thassos Festival bringing theatre and music to the ancient site of Philippi (July–August). Spring and early autumn are excellent for sightseeing — warm enough for the city and beaches, but without the summer crowds. Winter is quiet; most beach establishments close, but the old town and the museums remain open.
