Ferries to Thassos run from the port and take about an hour to Limenas (the island's main town); check schedules as frequency varies by season. Buses connect Kavala to Thessaloniki (2.5 hours) and Athens (7 hours). Ancient Philippi, 15 km west, is easily reached by local bus or taxi.
