A small fourteenth-century monastery hidden in a fold of the hillside about a kilometre below the town, reachable by a footpath that descends from the lower edge of Metsovo (signposted). It is the oldest surviving religious building in the area, with a tiny single-aisled church almost entirely covered in frescoes from the late sixteenth and seventeenth centuries.
The walk down takes 20 minutes and is steep but well-shaded; the climb back up will take you the better part of 45 minutes, so allow time. A single resident caretaker keeps the keys; if the monastery is locked, ask in the kafenio at the top of the path.
