A38 Ship

Converted Ukrainian cargo ship moored on the Danube, one of Budapest's best concert venues and bars

The A38 is a 1968 Ukrainian stone-carrier ship permanently moored on the Buda bank just south of Petőfi Bridge, reborn in 2003 as one of the most respected music venues in the country. The hold is now a concert hall with excellent sound, the deck is a restaurant and bar, and the whole thing rocks gently on the river while the city lights play on the water.

The programming runs from Hungarian and international indie and electronica to jazz and world music; a 2012 readers' poll once named it the world's best club. Even with no gig on, the upper-deck bar is a fine place for a sunset drink with the Pest skyline laid out across the Danube.
