Alsóvárosi Church and Monastery is a Franciscan complex in the Alsóváros district, south of Szeged's better-known centre. The church was completed in 1503 and is one of the city's oldest surviving religious buildings, with a Gothic core and later Baroque details.
It is a worthwhile detour if you are tracing Szeged beyond Dóm Square and the synagogue. Inside, look for the Marian icons, including the Black Mary, and the calmer atmosphere of a working church away from the main tourist circuit.
