Ross Island is the wooded peninsula around Ross Castle on the edge of Lough Leane, close enough to Killarney town for an easy walk but quickly quieter than the car park suggests. Trails loop through oak woods, lakeshore views, and old mining traces within the national park.
It is a useful low-effort alternative to the longer Gap of Dunloe or Torc Mountain days. Pair it with a castle visit, or come early and let the lake, trees, and mountain backdrop do the work.
