Adriatic beach town north of Pescara, with broad sand and a flat coastal road.
Montesilvano is the northern extension of the Pescara beach strip: broad Adriatic sand, long rows of summer lidos, apartment blocks, family hotels, and the flat cycling-friendly coast road. It is not the prettiest town in Abruzzo, but it is practical, sunny, and very easy to use.
The seafront is the reason to come. Montesilvano Beach is wide and shallow, good for families and for anyone who wants the Adriatic without Pescara's busiest central blocks. South of the main resort area, the Pineta di Santa Filomena gives a welcome strip of shade.
There is a second Montesilvano inland: Montesilvano Colle, the older hill settlement above the coast. It is worth the detour at sunset, when the view takes in the beach, the Pescara plain, and the mountains behind Abruzzo.

Beaches
The beach is long, sandy, and shallow, with private stabilimenti in summer and free stretches between them. It is calmer and more family-oriented than central Pescara, though still busy in July and August.
The best plan is simple: rent a lounger if you want service, or walk until you find a free patch of sand. Early morning and evening are the nicest times, when the heat drops and the line of the Gran Sasso and Majella is often visible inland.

Getting There
Montesilvano is immediately north of Pescara and is connected by local trains, buses, and the coastal road. Pescara airport is the nearest airport, and Pescara Centrale is the main rail hub for longer-distance connections.
If you are staying in Pescara, Montesilvano is close enough for a beach walk, bike ride, or short bus trip. Drivers can use the A14 motorway and the local coastal exits.
