Bergamo's gallery of modern and contemporary art sits in a 14th-century convent between the upper and lower cities, making it easy to combine with a visit to the Accademia Carrara nearby. The collection focuses on 20th-century Italian art — Arte Povera, Transavanguardia, and works from the 1960s to the present — alongside temporary exhibitions that are usually worth checking.
Less visited than the Accademia, which means less crowded, and the building itself is interesting: the cloister is partially preserved and the old convent spaces make for unusual gallery rooms. Free on the first Sunday of each month.
