Bergamo splits neatly between the medieval upper city and the modern lower town, and most of what's worth seeing is in Città Alta. Start with Piazza Vecchia and radiate outward — the walls, the churches, the castle, the museums. The Accademia Carrara down in the lower city is one of the best smaller art museums in northern Italy and deserves at least two hours.
