Castle of Charles V

The Castle of Charles V is Lecce's large fortified castle just off the old centre. Its present form dates mainly from the first half of the 16th century, when the medieval stronghold was rebuilt as part of the city's defences.

Today the castle is used for exhibitions, events, and conferences. Even when there is no major show on, the scale of the walls and courtyards makes it worth a look while exploring central Lecce.
