The Elymian-Punic Walls are one of Erice's best reminders that the hilltop town is much older than its medieval lanes first suggest. Sections of wall, towers, and gates follow the western side of the settlement, preserving layers of ancient fortification later repaired and reused.
Walk them slowly rather than treating them as background scenery. The stones connect Erice to western Sicily's pre-Roman and Punic world, while the views explain why this high, windy site mattered. Porta Trapani, Porta Carmine, and Porta Spada help anchor the route.
