The Sella Pass (Passo Sella, 2,218 m) separates the Sella group from the spiky Sasso Lungo to the west — one of the most photographed Dolomite views. The road from Canazei twists up the head of the valley through forest and meadow before opening onto a stark rock landscape at the top.
From the pass you can hike around the base of the Sasso Lungo (the Federico Augusto trail, about four hours) or take the open-cabin cable car to the saddle between the Sasso Lungo and Sasso Piatto. It's also the third pass on the Sella Ronda ski circuit.
