Sella Towers

Four spectacular limestone towers rise above the Sella Pass — the Torri del Sella, instantly recognisable in any Dolomite skyline shot. Their first ascent in 1890 by the Innsbruck climber Hans Helversen was a milestone in early Alpine climbing, and the routes on the towers remain classics today.

Non-climbers come for the view: from the pass, the towers loom up almost vertically out of the screen field. The Friedrich-August trail (Forcella del Sassolungo) takes you around their base in a few hours.
