Located in Fort St Elmo at the tip of the Valletta peninsula, the War Museum focuses on Malta's role in the Second World War — a period when the island was the most bombed place on earth. The centrepiece is the George Cross awarded to the people of Malta by King George VI in 1942 in recognition of their resistance. Exhibits include a rare Gloster Sea Gladiator biplane and the jeep used by US General Eisenhower during the Allied invasion of Sicily.
