Wolfsdreuvik

A miniature folly hidden in the Spanderswoud forest west of the centre — a tiny gnome-like cottage of brick, stone, and shells half-buried in the woods. It is a strange thing to come across mid-walk: handmade, eccentric, with a stained-glass window and a carved owl over the door.

Walkers usually find it by accident on the trails north of the Trompenburg estate. Bring a map: the path signing is deliberately discreet. It is open from the outside only, but worth the detour for the curious.

A story
Wolfsdreuvik was built in 1938 by Frans Coenen, then-curator of the Willet-Holthuysen Museum in Amsterdam, as a private hideout in the woods. He decorated it with stones, shells, and motifs picked up on his travels.
