Haagse Bos

Historic urban woodland beside The Hague, with royal associations and easy walking paths.

Haagse Bos is the long green woodland on the northeastern side of The Hague, close enough to the centre to reach on foot or by tram. It is one of the oldest surviving forests in the Netherlands and still feels surprisingly leafy given how tightly the city surrounds it.

The paths are good for an easy walk or bike ride, and the royal residence Huis ten Bosch sits within the broader landscape. It is not a formal garden or a museum stop; its value is the sudden shift from embassies, ministries, and traffic to quiet water, trees, and birdsong.
