Utrecht's Stadsschouwburg is a city landmark designed in 1937 by Willem Dudok, the Dutch modernist architect best known for Hilversum's town hall. The building is worth noticing for its clean brick massing and civic scale, even if you are not seeing a performance.
Most theatre productions are in Dutch, but the programme also includes dance and music. For visitors, its main appeal is architectural: it shows how Utrecht's 20th-century public buildings sit beside the much older canal city.
