Hæreid burial mounds

The Hæreid burial mounds form one of western Norway's largest ancient burial fields, with hundreds of mounds from the Viking Age and earlier. The site is open landscape rather than a formal museum, which makes the scale of the cemetery easier to feel.

Go for the combination of archaeology and fjord scenery. The mounds are subtle at first glance, so allow time to walk the area rather than treating it as a quick photo stop.
