Vøringsfossen is the sight that puts Eidfjord on most itineraries. The water drops from the edge of Hardangervidda into the Måbødalen gorge, with spray, echo, and sheer rock doing exactly what you hope a Norwegian waterfall will do.
Modern viewpoints and paths make the falls easier to see than they once were, but the landscape still feels raw. Weather changes quickly here; low cloud can swallow the view, while sun after rain gives the gorge real theatre.
