Sysen Dam sits high above Eidfjord, where the road has already left the fjord world for open mountain country. The dam itself is a functional structure, but its scale and setting make it an interesting stop on the way across Hardangervidda.
The area feels very different from the village below: more exposed, colder, and wider. It is a useful transition point if you are trying to understand how quickly western Norway changes with altitude.
