The Saint Petersburg Manege stands near St. Isaac's Square, built in 1804-1807 as the riding academy of the Imperial Horse Guards. Giacomo Quarenghi gave it a severe Neoclassical front, with Doric columns and sculpted horsemen that deliberately echo classical models.
The building later became one of the city's main exhibition halls and still hosts art and design shows. It is an easy architectural stop between St. Isaac's Cathedral, the Admiralty, and the Bronze Horseman.
