Monument to Catherine II

The Monument to Catherine II stands on Ostrovsky Square, just off Nevsky Prospekt. Catherine is shown above a ring of statesmen, generals, and cultural figures from her court, turning a busy central square into a compact lesson in imperial Saint Petersburg.

It is an easy stop between the Alexandrinsky Theatre, the National Library, and the shopping arcades around Nevsky. Come by when you are already walking the centre; the setting is more interesting than the monument alone.
