Church of San Miguel Arcángel

San Miguel sits at the top of the steps that climb from Plaza de la Virgen Blanca to the old town. Founded in the 14th century, with a Gothic nave and a baroque tower, the church is famous for the niche on its facade housing the Virgen Blanca, the city's patron. Each August she is the focus of the great civic celebration that opens with the Bajada del Celedón.

The interior keeps a 16th-century alabaster altarpiece, the work of the Basque sculptor Gregorio Fernández, and the views from the tower (when open) are the best in town.
