Things to Do

Vitoria-Gasteiz is small enough to see on foot in a day or two but rewarding enough to keep you longer. The medieval old town (Casco Medieval) sits on a low hill and is concentric — a series of streets named after trades (Cuchillería, Herrería, Zapatería) wrapping around the cathedral of Santa María. The 19th-century expansion below is built on a tidy grid around the Plaza de la Virgen Blanca and the colonnaded Plaza de España. A ring of parks called the Anillo Verde encircles the whole city, the legacy of the green planning that made Vitoria European Green Capital in 2012.
