The cathedral took nearly four centuries to complete — construction began in 1497 and continued in fits and starts until the 19th century — which explains its unusual mixture of Gothic, Renaissance, and neoclassical elements. The Plaza de Santa Ana in front is one of the finest public spaces in the Canary Islands, flanked by bronze dogs and old colonial buildings. Climb the bell tower for views over Vegueta's rooftops.
