The Casa Solà-Morales is the principal Modernista building in Olot — a 17th-century townhouse on the Passeig d'en Blay that was rebuilt in 1916 by Lluís Domènech i Montaner, the Barcelona architect best known for the Palau de la Música Catalana. The façade is decorated with sculpted female figures by Eusebi Arnau and a band of stained glass that lights the inner staircase.
The building is still in private use, so the interior is not open to visitors, but the façade alone is worth a walk down the Passeig. The wide, leafy boulevard it stands on is also Olot's main promenade — café tables under the plane trees, a Saturday street market, and a Modernista bandstand in the middle. A pleasant place to sit at the end of a day in the volcanoes.
