Vigo's municipal museum occupies the Pazo de Castrelos, an elegant baroque manor house set in the landscaped Parque de Castrelos in the southern part of the city. The museum contains a fine collection of Galician archaeology, furniture, and decorative arts, as well as Flemish paintings from the 16th and 17th centuries and a section on regional ceramics.
The park surrounding the house is arguably as much of a draw as the museum itself — one of the best maintained public gardens in Galicia, with rose gardens, fountains, and an open-air theatre that hosts concerts in summer. Entry to the museum is free on weekends. The combination of the park and museum makes for a relaxed half-day away from the city centre.
