The Maritime Museum and Aquarium is one of Gothenburg's natural fits: a museum about ships, seafarers, harbour labour, emigration, fishing, and the marine world in a city built around the sea. Its exhibits connect the port's working history with the wider North Sea and Atlantic routes that shaped western Sweden.
The aquarium gives the museum a living counterpoint to models and artefacts, especially for families. Together with Maritiman and the harbourfront, it helps visitors read Gothenburg as a maritime city rather than simply Sweden's second-largest urban centre.
