Universeum is a science museum adjacent to Liseberg that manages to contain a full five-floor tropical rainforest, a shark and ray tank, and a space science gallery within a single building. It is primarily aimed at families with children, but adults who enjoy natural history will find it engaging too.
The rainforest level is the most striking: a humid jungle environment with free-flying birds, iguanas, frogs, and over 6,000 plant species, all in a glass atrium designed to replicate a South American forest. The oceanic section, below the rainforest, has a large shark tank where nurse sharks and sandbar sharks circle overhead through a tunnel. The upper floors cover earth science and space exploration.
Located directly beside Liseberg, Universeum pairs naturally with a visit to the amusement park. The combination can fill a full day. Universeum is open year-round; Liseberg closes for the winter.
