Ribersborg Beach

Ribersborg is Malmö's city beach, stretching for about two kilometres along the western shore and ending at the iconic Ribersborg open-air baths. The beach is sandy, backed by a long promenade, and faces directly across the Öresund towards Denmark — on clear days the towers of Copenhagen are visible. It gets crowded in summer but remains a genuine local spot rather than a tourist beach.

The Kallbadhuset, the wooden bath house at the far end of the beach, is a Malmö institution: cold seawater pools, saunas, and the tradition of plunging into the water in all seasons. Swimming in the Öresund in February with Danes across the water is an experience. The beach is easily reachable by bike from the city centre in about 20 minutes.

A story
The Ribersborg open-air baths — known as Kallbadhuset — have operated continuously since 1898 and are one of the few remaining cold-water bathing houses in Scandinavia. Men and women bathe separately, all nude, in the traditional Nordic fashion. The wooden structure extends over the Öresund on piles, and on a clear day you can see Denmark from the sauna.
