Hallwyl

Opulent private palace turned eclectic art museum

Address Hamngatan 4

The Hallwyl Museum is a lavish private palace on Hamngatan, built in the 1890s for the wealthy Count and Countess von Hallwyl. Wilhelmina von Hallwyl spent decades filling every room with art, furniture, silverware, porcelain, and curiosities — then donated the entire collection to the Swedish state. Guided tours walk you through rooms that feel frozen in time, from the grand salon to the surprisingly intimate kitchen. The inner courtyard sometimes hosts summer concerts. Free admission.
