Kungsträdgården

Stockholm's royal garden — ice rink in winter, cherry blossoms in spring

Address Norrmalm

Kungsträdgården — the King's Garden — is a long, narrow park running through the heart of central Stockholm, just off the waterfront near the Grand Hotel. It's been a public gathering place since the 18th century and remains one of the city's most reliably pleasant spots to linger.

In spring, the park is famous for its cherry blossoms, which draw crowds every April for a festival that feels genuinely celebratory rather than just tourist-packaged. In winter, an outdoor ice rink opens in the southern end — free to enter, skate rental available. Summer brings outdoor cafes, chess tables, and a stage for concerts and events.

The park connects to the Kungsträdgården metro station, which is worth visiting for its own sake — the cave-like rock walls are decorated with colorful sculptures and reliefs, making it one of the more striking stops on the entire T-bana system.
