Ukraine's first national park, established in 1980 and covering about 50,000 hectares of mountain forest, alpine meadow, and high ridge in the Chornohora and Gorgany ranges south of Yaremche. The town is one of the main gateways: the park headquarters and information centre, with maps, route advice, and permits for the more sensitive areas, are in the centre of Yaremche.
Twelve marked trails fan out from various trailheads, from short forest walks to the multi-day traverse of Mount Hoverla, the highest peak in Ukraine (2,061 m). Wildlife is the headline reason to come — the park holds brown bear, lynx, wolf, and a small population of European bison reintroduced in the 1960s, though seeing any of them takes patience and luck.
