The signature sight of Yaremche, a broad set of rapids on the Prut River where the water drops about eight metres across a shelf of dark, polished schist. It is not high by global standards but the volume is large and the setting — a narrow gorge of fir and beech, with wooden bridges crossing above — gives it real drama. In spring snowmelt it can be terrifying, brown with sediment and audible from far off; in summer the rocks become a picnic spot.
The footpath from the central market down to the falls takes about ten minutes. Several traditional restaurants are perched on the rocks above the cascade and serve a meal with the noise of the falling water close enough to feel.
