Wooden Church in Dora

In the Dora district at the northern end of Yaremche stands a small wooden church of Saint Elijah, built in 1844 in the Hutsul style — log construction, three-domed silhouette, shingled walls, the whole roof line draped in the steep pitched eaves typical of the region. It is one of dozens of wooden Hutsul churches scattered through the valleys around Yaremche, but the closest one to town and easy to visit.

The interior, if open, holds a folk-painted iconostasis. The churchyard contains the graves of the original Dora villagers, since absorbed by the growing town of Yaremche.
