Cabot Tower

Hilltop tower flashing Bristol's name in Morse code

A Bristol landmark set atop Brandon Hill, the city's oldest park. Visible from many parts of the city, at night its beacon flashes B-R-I-S-T-O-L in Morse code. The 105-foot red sandstone tower with Bath stone dressings was designed by William Venn Gough. A spiral staircase leads to a balcony with splendid views over the city, the harbour, and across to Wales on clear days.

The foundation stone was laid in 1897 for the 400th anniversary of John Cabot's voyage to North America, and the tower opened on 6 September 1898. Free to visit and open daily during daylight hours.
