Ahuacatlán

Small Nayarit Pueblo Magico at the foot of the active Ceboruco volcano.

Ahuacatlán is a small Nayarit town with more identity than its size suggests. It sits below Volcán Ceboruco, on the old Camino Real route between Guadalajara and San Blas, and was named one of Mexico's Pueblos Magicos for its traditional centre and local culture.

The town itself is simple: a palm-lined Plaza Principal, the 18th-century Parroquia San Francisco de Asis, street food around the square, and sweets made from the fruit grown nearby. It is not a grand colonial showpiece, but it has the calm, lived-in feel that small Mexican towns can do so well.

The reason it clears the one-day test is Volcán Ceboruco. With a car or guide, the volcano gives Ahuacatlán a real outing beyond the plaza: crater views, rough lava landscapes, and a reminder that this quiet town sits under an active mountain.
