Mazamitla is Jalisco's mountain escape, a white-walled, red-roofed Pueblo Magico set among pine and oak forest south of Lake Chapala. Guadalajara comes here for cabins, cool air, fireplaces, horseback rides, and a weekend mood that feels much closer to the sierra than to the city.
The town centre is compact and photogenic, anchored by Parroquia de San Cristobal and a tidy plaza. The better reason to stay overnight is outside town, where Cascada El Salto and the Sierra del Tigre trails pull you into the forest.
Mazamitla is easy to like and easy to overpackage. Skip the faux-alpine romance if that is not your thing; come for the cool climate, the walking, and the simple pleasure of being in a Mexican mountain town after dark.
