Chipinque Mesa is a nature reserve in the Sierra Madre foothills at the southern edge of Monterrey, easily reached by car in around 20 minutes from the city centre. It offers some of the best hiking close to any major Mexican city, with trails ranging from easy walks to challenging climbs up into the sierra. The panoramic views over Monterrey from the mesa are exceptional.
The park is well maintained, with paved access roads, a visitor centre, and marked trails. Most trails are open to mountain biking as well as walking. The entrance fee is modest. Come early on weekdays to avoid weekend crowds and to see more wildlife.
