Mirador de Boaco

The viewpoint above the upper town gives a clear sense of Boaco's geography — the city spread down its hill, the broad valley of cattle country beyond, and the hills of the Nicaraguan highlands receding in every direction. On a clear morning, the view is genuinely rewarding and the air is noticeably cooler than in the streets below.

It is an easy walk up from the central park. Go in the morning or late afternoon — midday heat makes the walk uncomfortable, and the light is better for the view at either end of the day.

A story
Boaco calls itself "La Ciudad de Dos Pisos" — the City of Two Floors — because it is built on two distinct levels of the same hill. The upper town is older and more residential; the lower town, along the highway, is newer and more commercial. The mirador sits between them and is the best place to appreciate how the city was gradually built down the hillside as it grew.
