Virgen del Chiquito Chapel

A small hilltop chapel outside Boaco that serves as a local pilgrimage site. The building itself is simple, but the setting on the hilltop gives wide views over the surrounding cattle country. The walk up is straightforward and takes about thirty minutes from the edge of town.

The chapel is quietly meaningful to local people in a way that is easy to respect — this is not a tourist attraction but a working religious site. Visit in the morning for the best light and to avoid the midday heat.

A story
The chapel was built on the hilltop after a local family reported an apparition of the Virgin Mary at the site in the 19th century. It became a pilgrimage destination for the surrounding cattle communities, who would bring petitions for rain, for the health of their herds, and for safe journeys. The site still draws pilgrims on the feast days of the Virgin, particularly in late summer.
