Iglesia San José

Colonial-era church adding another stop to León's walkable church circuit

Iglesia San José is one of the smaller stops in León's rich circuit of colonial churches. It does not have the fame of the cathedral or the visual punch of La Recolección, but its facade, proportions, and neighbourhood setting add depth to a city where churches mark almost every stage of the old grid.

Visit it as part of a wandering route rather than a single-purpose trip. León rewards this kind of slow looking: a church, a shaded street, a revolutionary mural, a courtyard cafe, and then another church around the corner.
