Iglesia San Juan Bautista

Iglesia San Juan Bautista is one of Leon's older churches, originally built between the 1620s and 1650s and later reshaped in a neoclassical style. It stands by San Juan Park, with a plain exterior and large wooden columns that give the interior a sturdy, old-city feel.

It is not as showy as Leon's cathedral or La Recoleccion, but it rewards a short detour while walking the eastern side of the centre. The church is also a reminder that colonial Leon was a network of parish churches, not just one great square.
