Teatro José de la Cruz Mena is León's handsome old theatre, opened in 1885 and later named for the Nicaraguan composer José de la Cruz Mena. Its facade and interior make it one of the city's better cultural buildings.
Even if you do not catch a performance, it is worth looking for the statues of Thalia and Melpomene outside, a neat theatrical flourish in a city full of churches and revolution history.
