Central Forest Reserve National Park

A large swathe of tropical rainforest covering the central mountains of St. Kitts and protected as the second national park in the country (after Brimstone Hill). The terrain ranges from cloud forest on the upper slopes of Mount Liamuiga down through dry-tropical woodland on the lower hills.

Trails wind through stands of giant ficus, mahogany, and tree fern, with a strong chance of seeing the green vervet monkeys that have multiplied across the island. The reserve protects the catchments that supply most of Basseterre's water and is closed to vehicles — access is on foot, ideally with a local guide who knows the trails.
