Government House

The official residence of the governor-general, also known as Springfield House — a handsome white wooden colonial mansion on the western edge of Basseterre, set back from the road in mature gardens. The original building dates from the 1830s but has been rebuilt several times, most recently after Hurricane Hugo in 1989.

You cannot go inside but the gates and gardens are visible from the road, and the building itself is photogenic in late afternoon light. It is a short walk from the central Circus and pairs naturally with a stroll up the western edge of the old town.
