The Esplanade is the cliff-top road and walking path that runs along the bluff above Redondo Beach from Veterans Park south to the Torrance border. The drop to the beach is roughly 25 metres of vegetated coastal cliff, with a few zigzag pedestrian staircases providing access to the sand below.
The walking path is wide, paved, and runs unbroken for about a mile and a half. It is the favourite morning run/walk route for locals and offers an uninterrupted view across Santa Monica Bay — Catalina Island sits on the horizon on clear days, and you can see the Palos Verdes peninsula curving south. The drive itself is one of the most pleasant short coastal drives in LA County.
Sunset is the best time. A bench at the southern end facing west is locally known as the kiss-and-cry bench. Several restaurants on the inland side have terraces that take in the same view.
