A two-level wooden boardwalk that runs along the inside of the horseshoe pier, lined with seafood markets, fish stalls, ramen counters, sushi bars and Asian grocery shops. The lower level fronts the harbour water; the upper level opens onto the pier deck.
The atmosphere is closer to a working fish market than a tourist promenade — Korean and Japanese influences are strong in the food, and the live tanks at the south end (Quality Seafood, Pacific Fish Center) hold crab, lobster, abalone and rock cod that you can buy by weight and have steamed or grilled on the spot.
The boardwalk is at its busiest on weekends. The seating is informal — picnic tables, plastic chairs, beer in plastic cups — and the place fills with regulars from the South Bay's large Korean-American community on Sunday afternoons.
